The Madras high court has directed the superintendent of police of Palayamkottai Central Prison to release a prisoner, V Deivanayagam, who was arrested and jailed for not complying with an order of the court. The court had directed Deivanayagam to pay Rs 1 lakh compensation to a person who initiated proceedings against him in a cheque bounce case. Since Deivanayagam did not pay the amount, he was remanded in prison.
